Collecting Hermes Scarves

August 8th, 2011

You have found a darling Hermes scarf that you just love. After a little research into them, you decide that you want to own more. Beginners can be successful at creating their own collection with just a little guidance and spending the time needed to find the authentic scarves.

1) Learn Your Style

A Hermes scarf is a work of art all in itself. They have a variety of theme designs that have been used over the years. Some of the themes you can find in an authentic scarf are floral, equestrian, mythology, geography, nautical, historical and military. Each designer brings their own personal flair into the scarf they are designing, which is one thing that makes these scarves highly collectible. Many of the designers do sign their scarf creation, while others may not. Each design is usually available in a variety of colors. So, if you find one scarf design you really like, you may be able to find it in other colors.

2) Educate Yourself On Real Vs Fake

One of the things to be on the look out for when you are first starting your collection is a fake Hermes scarf. There are designer knock-offs of Hermes products on the market and the untrained eye may miss something. It can be very important to spend a little time learning what makes an authentic scarf authentic, and the difference that a knock-off may have. There are several different mistakes that show up in a knock-off. For example, poor quality materials, language other than French, and/or English used on the care tag, back design being different from the front and many more. Learning about these differences can help save your money towards buying the real deal, rather than wasting it on a fake at a premium price.

3) Learn About The Designers

When just starting out a Hermes scarf collection, it can be a lot of fun to discover new and vintage scarves. Learning more about the different designers and themes over the years can add to your enjoyment. Be aware that there are some fakes on the market to protect yourself from paying the authentic price for a knock-off. Having the knowledge of what to look for can be difficult, but is not impossible. So have fun and happy collecting!

4) Use A Scarf Ring To Add Dimension

The next step is learning how to wear your Hermes scarf with a horn scarf ring. This will add mileage to your scarf and great some amazing looks that you can’t achieve without a scarf ring. A scarf ring will also make your scarf collection look much larger than it really is. Each scarf looks different when you use a scarf ring and it will give you so many more options for wearing your scarf.
